After Effects of a Shingles Face Attack

Shingles attacks usually start with a fever to follow with chills, headache, an upset stomach and itching or burning sensation at the rash site. Sometimes there may be pain preceding the site of the rash; however, this pain is most commonly felt during the attack and after the rash disappears.

Shingles can attack any part of the body like back, neck and face. Shingles on the face usually affects the nose and eye. It is when the cornea is effected during the infection that the infection is called zoster keratitis.

This condition has to be treated quickly as the condition can lead to a scarring of the cornea, and eventual blindness. This is why anyone suffering from face shingles has to see a physician immediately. Any tingling sensation the person experiences in the nose tip may lead to facial and eye involvement.

It is normal for patients to experience pain at the rash site after it disappears. If the patient is attacked at the trigeminal nerve that supplies especially the nose and eyes, then the patient is most likely to experience prolonged post-shingles pain.

The older a person is, the higher the probability of the patient suffering from irritating sensations and pain at the rash site. Sometimes, there may also be impairment of vision even after the rashes of the shingles face attack heals.

This is why it is important that patients seek treatment immediately on being diagnosed with shingles. The healing process is quickened by eating less of oil, spices and salt during the shingles face attack.

I had shingles in my eye a year ago and was treated medically. Lately there is redness and burning or pressure in my eye. I have Omnipred but I understand using steroids all the time can cause gulacoma (spelling?) My Eye Doctor said to use Thera Tears 4 times a day and before bed and possibly that would help. But, the redness and pain is worse. Do you have any ideas that would help?

    Thank you
